I’m Mark — Señor Negro. I went to the Dominican Republic to play golf and came home with a cigar brand instead. Every blend is built with Alexander, a master blender carrying three generations of tobacco craft. I’m not here to sell you a cigar. I’m here to hand you a reason to light one.

My Story

I’m Mark Black — Señor Negro. I grew up in a small Missouri town, one of five kids, watching my dad work two jobs just to keep us covered. No scholarships, no safety net. I left college after one semester because I did not qualify for any grants so I started working at Lowe’s, then built a roofing company from nothing at age 26. With over twenty years of running a small business, I’ve learned: excellence isn’t optional if you actually care about the people you’re serving.

In February 2025, a snowstorm shut down my roofing work and my golf game, so I booked a last-minute trip to Punta Cana. I ended up near a cigar lounge, where I met a Dominican named Dario who welcomed me like family. The factory was closed that Saturday — he had his brother open it just for me. I met the rolling supervisor, who let me roll my own cigar by hand. That night, back at the lounge, I met Alexander — a master blender carrying three generations and 35 years of tobacco craft. That’s the night Señor Negro Cigars was born.

I believe none of that was an accident. The roofing, the cigars, that trip — it’s all part of the same plan: build things of real quality, and use them to bring people together. That’s where “Welcome to the Fire” comes from. I’ve got the lighter. My job is to spark something — a slower evening, a real conversation, a moment worth remembering — in everyone I hand a cigar to.

Every blend we make is built with Alexander in the Dominican Republic, aged and hand-selected, and named for a fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5. Not because it’s a gimmick — because that’s genuinely what I want more of in the world, and I think a shared cigar is one of the most honest ways to get there.
